About this Opportunity

The Talent Management & Learning Solutions team has an excellent opportunity for a Learning Advisor (contract) to join their group.


Reporting to the Specialist, Talent Management, your primary responsibility  will be the identification of business and training needs through detailed analysis that support the design, development, and implementation of Technical and Organizational Learning solutions across Cenovus.  The Learning Advisor will be required to successfully undertake learning activities, initiatives and projects that enhance individual, team, and organizational performance, productivity, and safety across multiple operational sites or disciplines; this work may include the development of new portfolio-based programs or initiatives, developing enhancements to existing programs, and / or the development and implementation of advanced learning methodologies and technologies across Cenovus.

The role requires detailed knowledge and experience related to business and training needs analysis, people and organizational learning theory and practice, and the application of enterprise learning and information & communication technologies that support enhanced learning, knowledge management, and performance support applications.

Work Environment

  • Accountable and responsible for the development of learning activities, initiatives, projects, and plans associated with implementing the Cenovus Learning Strategy


    • Within the priorities of the business unit, group, and function, act as the single point of contact for all business and training requests.
    • Follow CLI learning processes
    • Conduct business and training needs analysis with operational stakeholders to identify value-driven innovation opportunities
    • Development of business and investment cases to support innovation initiative / program / project development
    • Design and document a business case to address performance gaps and business needs in the form of a project charter available through the Business Project Management environment
    • Management of innovation projects from conceptualization to implementation
    • Establishment and review of project charters, and holding team members accountable for project deliverables
    • Support the CLI Learning process steps for all of the Learning Solutions staff and service providers
    • Engagement with external organizations as appropriate to support initiative / program / project development and execution


  • Provide thought- and practice-leadership in the field of Technical and / or Organizational Learning within the Learning Solutions team and other groups within Cenovus


    • Development, support and adherence of learning processes and practices aligned to the Cenovus Learning Strategy
    • Represent the Learning Solutions team as required at team leadership, business unit, and stakeholder engagement meetings


  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Post-Secondary degree in Education / Information Technology / Business Analysis/ Performance / Leadership Development
  • 5+ years of experience in delivering Organizational Learning or related programs
  • 3+ years of strategic planning / senior learning consultancy experience
  • 2+ years leadership experience in a team-based environment
  • 2+ years of experience in developing technical / business standards, policies, and practices
  • Project and Change Management experience supporting enterprise learning programs
  • Areas of experience that would be an asset - in-depth knowledge of contemporary learning technologies such as: online learning; gaming & simulation; knowledge capture, validation, integration, & transfer or evaluation
