About this Opportunity

Cenovus Energy is looking to fill a contract position as a Product Specialist - Food. Reporting to the Manager, Field accommodations and Workplace Operations, the Product Specialist will support the Field Accommodations mandate to provide healthy, safe and productive accommodations by managing the safety, quality and cost of the food, food services, and perishables delivered in our camps. This role will be accountable to manage the Food Supply contractor and will steward to the Field Accommodations budget. It is expected that this role will identify and realize cost reductions in this area through the active management and optimization of supply and planning, without reducing quality of meals and service delivered.

Work Environment

This is a contract position located in Calgary, AB. There will be travel required to our camps at Foster Creek and Christina Lake, and as required, support to other operations such as Deep Basin, as well as visits to the food supply contractor's offices.

Responsibilities

Ensure that food safety, quality and nutrition in our camps meets our goals to provide healthy, safe and productive accommodations and workspaces:

  • Advise Camp Operations Team on the compliance of food safety programs of our catering contractors
  • Develop management plan for food recalls and complete necessary reporting for tracking, improvement and compliance purposes
  • Review menu designs to ensure they meet our expectations for quality and nutrition, and that they incorporate diversity and dietary restriction options
  • Work with Cenovus Camp Operations to oversee the overall quality of the food service delivered in our camps
  • Work with Cenovus’s Occupational Health team to incorporate health and wellness aspects into food services
  • Manage any reported food-related hazards, incidents, or reported concerns; investigate cause and implement corrective measures using Cenovus’s incident management system
  • This role is required to be on call

 Manage food supply chain and costs:

  • Work closely with Supply Chain Management to develop the food contract structure, scope, and pricing
  • Collaborate with Cenovus Camp Operations and Catering contractor to design menu plans to optimize food cost with quality
  • Work with food supply contractor to leverage their information, inventory and supply chain tools to optimize the cost and quality of supplies provided to our camps
  • Create plan to manage consumable and perishable supply budget of >$30MM / year
  • Develop baseline and strategy for the selection of food and perishable products that best meet needs and goals of the team
  • Develop execution plan to place food orders with the food supply contractor based on approved menu plans and order guide
  • Seek out opportunities to optimize food supply and services within the Workplace & Real Estate portfolio
  • Establish and execute a food sourcing strategy across all Cenovus camp locations
  • Establish and implement cost, quality and satisfaction metrics to support the continued improvements of costs and services
  • Review, recommend and implement process of budget preparation, review and approve invoices and necessary controls and procedures to effectively deliver services
  • Implement and sustain inventory controls with respective catering contractors
  • Evaluate and create a business plan for a food waste prevention program

Qualifications

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
  • Minimum 8 years experience with commercial food and beverage purchasing and distribution
  • Industry experience in institutional catering and hospitality
  • Working knowledge of procurement, contracts and supply chain optimization processes
  • Food Safety certification
  • Prior experience managing food and beverage services to camp-based operations, or similar
  • Strong indigenous relations and aboriginal partnership experience
  • Excels in all areas of food safety and hospitality safety management
  • Demonstrated strength in strategy development and implementation, planning, and execution

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Posses ability to engage effectively with all levels of the organization and disciplines
