About this Opportunity

The Supply Chain Management (SCM) group is currently looking for a Senior Advisor, Sourcing to join the SCM Projects sourcing team on a Contract basis.


The successful candidate will be responsible for providing advanced SCM support focused on enterprise-wide Facility Engineering, Construction and Earthworks capital project sourcing requirements. This opportunity requires an experienced individual with both excellent business analysis capabilities and a firm knowledge of SCM procedures and best practices with specific expertise and experience with all aspects of Project sourcing including Engineering, Fabrication, Construction with execution of EPC Models, different contracting models, and external sourcing (EPC Firms).  This individual will be self-motivated with an ability to work with minimal supervision and will have a proven track record of delivering significant savings, risk reduction, and other innovative value-added benefits by applying critical thinking and challenging the status quo.



Work Environment

This is a Contract position working in our Calgary office.



  • Build, develop and execute a strategy, structure, governance, sourcing plan and procurement process for services and materials within the assigned portfolio
  • Lead implementation of sourcing strategies for projects in alignment with Cenovus-wide objectives for Safety, Cost, Schedule and Quality
  • Perform market analysis for project portfolios and develop price evolution forecasts
  • Lead sourcing, contracting, procurement and vendor management for capital projects portfolio
  • Achieve year-over-year cost reduction targets on external goods and schedule for the portfolio and in support of project objectives
  • Develop and deploy, in conjunction with various execution teams, the right contracting strategy to meet execution plans while maximizing Cenovus sustainable competitive advantage in cost, cash and operational performance
  • Design and lead multi-level complex negotiation strategies with key vendors
  • Achieve improved vendor safety performance targets by integrating Cenovus' Safety Commitments, strong vendor qualification and performance feedback into the sourcing processes
  • Drive cost leadership and project sourcing excellence cross-functionally to maximize synergies across multiple execution teams
  • Demonstrate and deploy cross-industry best practices and innovations to maintain Cenovus competitive advantage and positioning
  • Adhere to and cascade strong ethical principles and standards in applying all aspects of internal and external sourcing
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to identify and drive implementation of metrics, tools, and processes to optimize sourcing activities and efficiencies


  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • 8-10 years of progressive strategic sourcing and procurement experience within a projects sourcing portfolio
  • Academic Degree in Business Administration or equivalent. Alternatively an Engineering Degree combined with strong project sourcing experience or MBA would be considered
  • Progressive experience with all aspects of Project sourcing including Engineering, Fabrication, Construction with execution of EPC Models, alternate contracting models, and external sourcing (EPC Firms). Sourcing abroad would be considered an asset.
  • Extensive sourcing for large project execution of energy industry or other similar process or manufacturing facilities
  • The candidate must demonstrate a strong track record, evidenced by quantitative achievements, in implementing project sourcing, contracting and contract administration
  • Ability to lead complex negotiations. Previous responsibility for negotiations and supplier management through the development phase
  • Previous experience initiating and executing strategic sourcing processes
  • Ability to negotiate skillfully in tough situations with both internal and external groups
  • Sourcing expertise with planning, assessing and implementing outsourcing and multi-sourcing delivery models
  • Category management and management of cross-functional category teams
  • Strategic thinker but focused on delivery
  • Strong analytical skills. Able to solve problems through honest analysis coupled with good judgment; initiative and decision making abilities
  • Excellent presentation skills. Able to speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and with different levels of stakeholders

  • EP firm procurement could be considered an asset
