    About this Opportunity

    We are currently seeking a Group Lead, Accounting Research. Reporting to the Director of Reporting, this role will be responsible for monitoring changes to International Financial Reporting Standards and continuous disclosure requirements as well as coordinating the implementation of new financial accounting and reporting standards. This individual will provide quality assurance for the Reporting Team by completing independent reviews and disclosure checklists.

     

    This position will appeal to individuals with strong leadership skills and who work well within a team environment.

    Work Environment

    This is a full time employee position working in our Calgary office. 

    Responsibilities

    • Review all financial statement and continuous disclosure documents for compliance, including legal entity financial statements
    • Monitor changes to International Financial Reporting Standards, generally accepted accounting principles in the United States and continuous disclosure rules
    • Prepare and review technical accounting memorandums
    • Work with other members of the Comptroller’s Team to ensure that all financial reporting and disclosure standards are met
    • Ensure adequate accounting and reporting controls are in place to meet requirements for SOX compliance
    • Mentor and manage the Accounting Research team
    • Coordinate the implementation of new accounting and financial reporting standards
    • Work with Legal and Treasury Teams regarding continuous disclosure matters
    • Actively participate at peer group meetings
    • Ad hoc projects as required
    • Actively participate as a member of the Reporting Team

    Qualifications

    • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
    • University degree combined with a professional accounting designation
    • 10-15 years of experience
    • Thorough knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards and generally accepted accounting principles in the United States
    • Strong knowledge of continuous disclosure rules in Canada and the United States
    • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry and financial reporting
    • Strong analytical skills, problem solving and decision making capability
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and consistently
    • Superior project management, organizational and time management skills
    • Motivated individual who is a team player with a positive attitude
    • Strong Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills

    Other skills

    • Audit experience would be an asset
